Mazzini Square

Mazzini Square

The square offers a beautiful viewpoint with a view of Vallericcia and spanning the Roman countryside to the sea. It was designed by engineer Giovanni Gustavo between 1914 and 1921, following an agreement with the owner Francesco Petrucci who had previously built support structure for the square in Via della Croce. In 1949, the Ariccian sculptor Bixio Fortini built the Monument to the Roman Republic, with the bust of Giuseppe Mazzini (an intellectual and key figure of the Italian unification propaganda in the 19th century) and Republican plaques.
