Bernini stairway

Bernini stairway

The so-called Bernini Stairway was built in front of the Galloro Sanctuary in 1925. Its wall niches testify to inspiration from the famous Theatres of the Waters (Teatri delle Acque) of the Tuscan villas. In the central niche there is the plaque bearing the inscription: "CAN / ANNO / MCMXXV". The stairway was conceived as a scenery backdrop and integration for the urbanization of Mount Cucco and its newly build villas.
